For over a century, Montessori education has blossomed through respect, independence, and the joy of self-directed learning. For 36 years, MSB has been proud to carry on this beautiful tradition, supporting students as they explore, persevere, and discover what they are passionate about.

We were delighted to gather on June 18 for our 2026 G6 and G8 Promotion Ceremony and Student Achievement Awards. Surrounded by proud families and dedicated faculty, we celebrated the students' hard work and remarkable progress. This meaningful ceremony was a wonderful chance to honor their achievements and look forward to the bright future ahead for every young Montessori learner.

Expressing the Self Through Literature and the Arts

Montessori education values self-expression and creativity, encouraging children to communicate their thoughts and emotions through literature and the arts.

The celebration began with two recipients of the Young Artist Award, Albert Gao and Christina Gao, who shared reflections on their creative journeys. This award recognizes not only artistic talent but also the dedication and perseverance required to create consistently over time. Through this recognition, MSB hopes they will continue to create freely, experience the world through art, and express their authentic selves with confidence.

Inspiring Logical Thinking Showcasing Young Minds in Competition

Montessori education believes every child is born with a mathematical mind. In the classroom, mathematics extends beyond written exercises to hands-on exploration and logical games such as chess, helping children develop intrinsic reasoning skills. At MSB, students actively pursue their interests beyond the classroom and take part in professional competitions, strengthening their logical thinking through challenge and practice.

On January 23, 2026, the AMC 8 (American Mathematics Competitions Grade 8), hosted by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), was successfully held. Four students from our school won awards, fully demonstrating their solid and outstanding comprehensive mathematical literacy. On March 28, Math Kangaroo, the world’s largest recreational mathematics competition, kicked off as scheduled. The event is coordinated by the Association Kangourou Sans Frontières (AKSF) and undertaken by authorized local institutions in China. Eight of our students stood out among over 100,000 participants nationwide, claiming Silver, Bronze and Merit Awards respectively with remarkable achievements.

What makes their performance even more commendable is that many younger students took the initiative to participate in advanced competition divisions. They struck a good balance between daily coursework and competition preparation, breaking age limits with their solid capabilities and earning high praise.

On May 24, 2026, MSB’s chess team fielded three sides: U8 A, U8 B and U12, to compete in the Inter-School Chess Team Challenge, going head-to-head with teams from over 20 international schools. The MSB U8 A Team delivered an outstanding performance and won the team championship, with two players also securing individual board titles. The U12 Team finished fourth among ten strong teams, showing steady and composed play. Across the competition, MSB players demonstrated solid skills, calm decision-making, and strong overall performance, earning wide recognition for the school.

Nurturing Artistic Excellence Through Holistic Education

On January 25, 2026, MSB Arts Troupe’s group dance Dreamscape (Ru Meng Ling) made its debut at the 3rd “Hua Wu Xing” Professional Dance Achievement Showcase, hosted by the Talent Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The performance ranked first and was awarded the prestigious “One Heart Star” Award. The students refined every movement through repeated practice, supported and encouraged one another, and bravely expressed themselves on stage. Behind this achievement are the full efforts of every young performer, the dedicated guidance of their teachers, and the school’s long-term commitment to Chinese cultural education.

On June 1and 2, 2026, seventeen students from G1 to G9 at MSB graced the stage at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center as performers in Beijing: A Night of Tony Award-Winning Musicals. Sharing the spotlight with Broadway professionals and top Chinese musical theater talents, our young artists brought a collection of iconic musical classics to life. The 17 students from MSB Broadway·Tony Awards China Musicals Program received systematic professional training in authentic Broadway techniques. They balanced schoolwork with rehearsals while immersing themselves in diverse stage cultures. Over several weeks, the children rehearsed continuously—memorizing lines, practicing vocal pieces, and refining choreography—while steadily keeping up with their daily academic studies. For them, simply standing confidently on stage and delivering a complete performance was already a remarkable achievement.

Advancing Forward with Montessori Values

Montessori education centers on awakening a child’s inner potential and nurturing individuals who think independently, explore courageously, and act with kindness. The G6 & G8 Promotion Ceremony marks an important milestone as students transition from childhood into a new stage of growth. Students received their promotion certificates on stage and expressed gratitude to MSB as well as their hopes for the future. We encourage them to carry forward the curiosity cultivated through Montessori education and continue exploring academics, arts, sports, and beyond, while strengthening their independent thinking, cross-cultural communication, and teamwork skills.

A Montessori Reflection: Every Effort Deserves Applause

In his inspiring on-site address, Vice Principal Mr. Anthony Bernardo shared a beautiful reflection on the deeper meaning of the ceremony through the lens of Montessori education. He reminded us that promotion is not just a step forward, but a natural and joyful outcome of each child's self-driven growth. Awards, in turn, shine a light on the initiative, curiosity, and consistent effort that our students bring to their learning every day.

More precious than any certificate, Mr. Bernardo emphasized, is the courage our students show when they practice with determination, embrace challenges with open hearts, and speak up with confidence. These are the very qualities that Montessori education lovingly nurtures. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to parents for their trust in the school, and to teachers for their patient guidance and steady encouragement. Together, as one supportive community, home and school continue to protect and respect the unique journey of every child, honoring their own special pace of development.

At the ceremony, award-winning students were presented with LIULI Pegasus gifts. May all the young minds, just like these LIULI Pegasus works, hold fast to independence, courage and kindness as they set off toward their own vast dreams. Meanwhile, MSB has specially prepared a LIULI crystal paperweight co-created by MSB and LIULI GONGFANG for every graduating and promoted student.

LIULI occupies a unique place in Chinese civilization. Dating back more than two thousand years, it was treasured by emperors, scholars, and artisans as one of the most precious artistic materials in ancient China. Known for its translucence and ability to capture light, LIULI symbolizes wisdom, transformation, hope, and beauty.

Just as LIULI must pass through intense heat and repeated refinement before revealing its brilliance, children grow through challenges, perseverance, and courage. Every experience becomes part of the journey that shapes who they will become.

This special gift also reflects MSB’s educational philosophy: respecting the individuality of every child and believing in the unlimited potential within each young learner.

At the closing of the ceremony, teachers and students gathered to cut a cake symbolizing growth and good wishes, capturing a warm and memorable moment. The 2026 MSB G6 & G8 Promotion Ceremony and Student Achievement Awards came to a successful close. With 36 years of commitment to Montessori education, MSB remains firmly convinced that every child possesses an inner drive for growth.

We hope all award recipients and promoted students will move forward with the independence, passion, and inclusiveness nurtured through Montessori education.
