Our History
1990
MSB’s founding principal, started teaching in Beijing in 1990 when she set up a Montessori classroom in the Royal Norwegian Embassy for a group of 10 pupils. She wished to create a unique Kindergarten and Elementary school aimed at providing excellent education in the English and Chinese language for Beijing’s international community.
1992
In 1992, she created a Kindergarten at The China World Trade Center, and one year later, established MSB’s Elementary Program at Beijing Lufthansa Center.
1995
In 1995, the Beijing Diplomatic Language and Cultural Centre in Sanlitun served as MSB’s central base, and Chinese curriculum was added to our Montessori education. At the same time, MSB became the Montessori training demonstration base of Beijing Normal University.
2000
In 2000, River Gardens and Beijing Riviera campuses were established.
2008
In 2008, MSB’s curriculum expanded to offer a choice of an English only based education or a complete full-immersion dual language English-Mandarin Program.
2009
In May 2009, MSB hosted the American Montessori Association (AMS) Asian Montessori Teacher Exchange Conference. AMS represents over 1,500 Montessori schools worldwide and MSB is one of them.
2010
In 2010, MSB hosted the National Montessori Teacher Exchange Conference.
2012
In 2012, MSB established its new and beautiful campus at Riviera, consolidating all of its campuses on the same grounds.
2016
In 2016, MSB was approved to open a middle school, and established strategic partnerships with the Niskayuna Central School District in northern New York and the School Of The Woods Montessori to jointly develop the MSB middle school program.
2019
In 2019, MSB officially launched its middle school program, becoming the first Montessori international school in Asia for students aged 0-18.
2020
In 2020, MSB celebrated its 30th anniversary. The school now serves over 400 children aged 18 months to 18 years, representing more than 21 nationalities.
