In the Name of Love, Embracing A New Chapter of Growth — MSB 2025 Graduation and Promotion Ceremony

On June 10, 2025, the Multi-purpose Hall of The International Montessori School of Beijing was filled with warmth as our Graduation and Promotion Ceremony unfolded, deeply infused with the spirit of Montessori education. From EC3 to Grade 5 and Grade 8, graduates from three different levels looked back on their journeys with emotion and set out with courage toward new horizons, all in an atmosphere of respect, independence, exploration, and responsibility. The four-hour ceremony was not only a celebration of personal growth but also a vivid embodiment of Montessori’s core educational philosophy. Throughout the hall, parents were often moved to tears by moments of their children’s growth, while applause mingled with the aroma of refreshments, weaving a tapestry of heartfelt farewells and hopes for the future.

The Beginning of Montessori Education: Awakening Self-Awareness in a Prepared Environment
That morning, the hall was transformed into a miniature Montessori classroom: mats defined the “work areas” and “social areas,” and 42 EC2 children sat neatly on small chairs, arranged in their usual small group formation. When 22 EC3 graduates appeared in their hand-sewn graduation caps and gowns, they carefully adjusted their collars and lined up in order. This was a vivid expression of Montessori’s “care of self” principle.

In her speech, Xhilda seemed to open the first page of The Secret of Childhood: “Dr. Montessori said that children build themselves through work. These children have spent three years focused on their ‘work,’ from their first grasp of colored beads to completing intricate patterns, from tearful separation anxiety to offering comfort to a classmate.” A special “work retrospective” featured a video montage of children deeply engaged with sensorial materials, tender observations in plant diaries, and even their first, milk-spilling attempts at independent dining. It was a perfect testament to Montessori’s belief in embracing imperfection and cherishing each step of growth.

The Progress of Montessori Education: Building Character Through Learning by Doing
At the Grade 5 ceremony, Glenn’s address focused on the children’s journey of learning by doing. While he celebrated their academic achievements, he placed even greater emphasis on their growth as kind, thoughtful, and capable individuals. He encouraged students to carry forward their habits of independence and order, to face future challenges with curiosity, confidence, and gratitude, and to continue as masters of their own growth — a true reflection of the Montessori spirit of awakening self-awareness.

When a parent representative stepped onto the stage, warm laughter filled the hall. “To set an example of courage for my son Adrian, I overcame my fear of public speaking today,” she shared with honesty that touched everyone. This mother, who affectionately described herself as “a product of the last century,” offered three simple yet heartfelt pieces of advice:
• Be true to yourself: “Your light doesn’t need to be defined by others. Following your heart is the bravest choice.”
• Slow down and smell the flowers: “Life isn’t a marathon. The scenery along the way is worth cherishing.”
• Home will always be here: “Even if we argue or you rebel, remember that your imperfections are what complete the puzzle of our lives.”

The teachers also expressed their heartfelt thanks to the parents. Every educational success is made possible by the partnership between family and school. The teachers acknowledged both the trust placed in them and the power of this shared effort. It is this spirit of unity that makes MSB a lasting home in the hearts of our students.

The Culmination of Montessori Education: Moving Toward Self-Leadership Through Reflection and Legacy
At the Grade 8 ceremony, Elmar remarked, “Today is a special day. We are not only celebrating the completion of middle school, but also witnessing your transformation in knowledge, confidence, courage, and character.” He praised the students for their creativity, leadership, and resilience in the face of challenges, and affirmed that they are ready for new adventures. His reminder that “you don’t need to have everything figured out” reflected Montessori’s belief in honoring each individual’s pace of growth and rejecting one-size-fits-all molds. Elmar encouraged the graduates to carry forward the critical thinking and independence fostered by their Montessori journey as they continue to grow into vibrant, life-loving individuals.

A Message from Our Chinese Principal: Let Kindness and Wisdom Light Your Path
In her address, Mira Caoma reflected, “2,500 years ago, Confucius spoke of individualized teaching, and a century ago, Dr. Montessori championed child-centered education. Though separated by time and place, their wisdom resonates deeply.” At MSB, this wisdom shines not only through academics but also in the daily cultivation of character — in respectful classroom dialogue, collaborative teamwork, and the empathy shown in resolving conflicts. Mira shared her heartfelt hope that students will always keep kindness in their hearts, blending Eastern wisdom with a global outlook as they shine brightly in the wider world. “These graduates, rich in cultural depth and global vision, will surely become brilliant stars lighting the future.”

Montessori education offers the gift of lifelong growth. This graduation was far more than a ceremony — it was a living declaration of Montessori’s mission: that true education plants three seeds in a child’s heart — curiosity about the world, awareness of the self, and empathy for others. May these children, raised in the spirit of Montessori, always have the courage to take their time and grow into their unique, authentic selves.
