  • Counselor's Hub: Welcome from Ken

Back to School is always a significant event with possible, new class, new friends, new teachers, new grade level, new expectations, new faces around the school in leadership teams and support staff. One of the biggest changes is in the student’s daily routine.

The start of school on Thursday and Friday went smoothly however most children will need a full week at school to re-establish morning routines.

Parenting tip: Try to have them wake up and get up earlier to better resemble the school day timetable. We all get super tired when we change our circadian rhythms. This means adjusting bedtime routines to make sure they get plenty of rest.

If your child is new to MSB “welcome”. Teachers will have assigned peer buddies to make sure they are familiar with routines, bathroom areas and will play with them while they start to make new friends. It is normal to feel anxious and have big feelings with significant change but within a couple of weeks, they will find their way and make friends. If after a couple of weeks of natural adjustment if your child is still feeling anxious, let their homeroom teachers know so a coordinated support plan can be put in place.

It’s important to remember that children in general are incredibly resilient, and most will adapt with confidence. Kids take their cues from adults they trust. Showing confidence, yourself is vitally important.  Believe in them “They have got this!”

Good luck we are excited to see you all at MSB the “Welcoming School”.
