Dear Counselor Hub readers,
I hope this week’s Buzz finds you well, safe and secure with all the uncertainty and changing rules and regulations in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
It has been a tough week to be honest and the number of anxious and concerned parents, staff and students has definitely increased as things change by the week, day, and hour at times. I am reminded that human beings crave certainty and when things as difficult and impactful as Spring Break plans get turned upside down with even harsher restrictions the year of complexity and change that we have all endured can come crashing down on individuals normally coping well. I particularly reach out to all my Chinese colleagues and MSB families who are having to readjust family plans in light of the latest outbreaks and need to once again put the health of nation in the forefront of their holiday planning.
Take time to re-charge and get some extra rest and relaxation. It is hard to concentrate when cortisol (stress) hormones are raging. Care for yourself so you can care for others, take breaks more often to compensate for possibly not being at the top of your game.
If your child is more irritable than is common for them they may be suffering from Covid-19 fatigue as the media, news services, alerts and signs are all around us to remind us to be safe and take precautions. I need to accept that it has caught up with me this week as I care for others.
Nothing that a good sleep can’t fix.
If this article is timely and speaks a truth, can I reassure you that you are not alone. Look after one another we never truly know what someone else is coping with.
Stay both physically and emotionally safe and well. Happiness is a feeling and a state of mind. May you find your happiness. Thinking of you all at this time.
