Learning Support Teacher

Job Summary:

The Learning Support Teacher provides support to students with special needs, such as learning
disabilities, ASD, language and/or behavioral disorders. They collaborate with teachers, parents,
and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), Individual
Behaviour Plans (IBP), and Accommodations, to create a positive and inclusive learning
environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to identify and evaluate
students with special needs.
• To conduct initial assessments to evaluate the performance levels of those children with
identified concerns.
• Develop and implement education plans and provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of
student progress.
• To participate in the Child Study Team Meetings.
• Create and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students, including
those with special needs.
• Provide direct instruction and support to students with special needs in both individual and
group settings.
• Adapt instructional materials and techniques to meet the individual needs of students with
special needs.
• Provide support and guidance to classroom teachers in the implementation of
accommodations and modifications for students with special needs.
• Monitor and track student progress through ongoing assessment and evaluation.
• To share this knowledge with the staff informally through daily work and formally through
PD presentations.
• Communicate regularly with parents and other professionals regarding student progress
and needs.
• Attend and participate in professional development activities related to special education
and instructional strategies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation related to student progress
and services provided.
• To coordinate and consult with external professionals such as therapists and psychologists
working with our children who have special needs.
• To provide names of resources to parents who have identified children.
• To attend and participate in parent evenings and curriculum presentations.
• To follow all professional standards and practices as outlined in the staff handbook.
• Other duties as assigned by Student Services Coordinator and Head of School.


• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field
• Experience working with students with special needs, particularly those with learning
disabilities or behavioral disorders (3-5 years)
• Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and accommodations for students
with special needs
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development activities.
